My Little Ubuntu Guide

Gutsy Just 6 Days Away

I don’t know how many of you have read up on the latest release of Ubuntu: 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). You can read about it HERE. This is a step in Linux history that will change everything! On the 18th I’ll be downloading the official CD and doing a fresh install. If anything is needed to make it work smoothly I’ll create a custom CD and announce it here within a day of that date.

See you there!

Well I haven’t install the final release but I did do the candid release and had the usual problems. X1400, 1390 lan card and then to top it off suspend and hibernate were shot. So I really hope your scripts address the sleep issue. I kept getting a black screen when opening up the laptop and no response from the power button. So just had to pull the plug on ubuntu.

Well to end the story now I have a kernel panic!? wtf and I’m throughly pissed off. So i really like ubuntu but with all these problems and I need a laptop that suspends.

    No go.

    Hi,
    I have a inspiron e1505.

downloaded and burned gutsy with great excitement, but now can’t get the LiveCD to boot, due to a bcm43xx failure. I see you have custom iso’s for a similar system configuration (e1505 and 6400 are practically identical, imo).

do you have any eta on when you might be putting out a custom iso for gutsy that would work around my failure to get ubuntu working?

    thanks a bunch,
    simon

    ATI/suspend showstopper:

There is a comment from Martin Man which has what appears to be a decent workaround. I was going to attempt it but installing 7.10 on a T60 with an ATI X1400 fro, the Alternate CD I couldn’t even get X up.
